INFECCIONES POR BURKHOLDERIA EN PACIENTES INTERNADOS EN UN HOSPITAL GENERAL DE AGUDOS
Resumen
Las infecciones por el complejo Burkholderia son infrecuentes, se presentan en pacientes con internaciones prolongadas y se han descripto brotes hospitalarios. El objetivo del presente trabajo es describir características clínico-epidemiológicas y la evolución de pacientes con infecciones por especies de Burkholderia internados en la división de Clínica Médica del Hospital Luis Lagomaggiore, Mendoza. Los resultados muestran que en nuestro medio la infección por Burkholderia fue más frecuente en varones con internación prolongada. La especie más frecuente fue B. cepacea, aislada en hemocultivos. Trimetroprima/sulfametoxazol, meropenem y ceftazidima fueron los antibióticos con mayor sensibilidad. La evolución fue favorable en el 100% de los pacientes.

INFECTION BY BURKHOLDERIA IN HOSPITALIZED PATIENTS IN A GENERAL ACUTE CARE HOSPITAL
Abstract
Infections by the Burkholderia complex are infrequent, they are seen in patients with prolonged hospitalizations, and hospital outbreaks have been described. The objective of this work is to describe clinical-epidemiological characteristics and the evolution of patients with infections by Burkholderia species hospitalized in the Medical Clinic division of the Hospital Luis Lagomaggiore, Mendoza. The results show that, in our environment, Burkholderia infection was more frequent in men with prolonged hospitalization. The most frequent species was B. cepacea, isolated in blood cultures. Trimethoprimsulfamethoxazole, meropenem and ceftazidime were the antibiotics with greater sensitivity. The evolution was favorable in 100% of the patients.
