RECOMENDACIONES SOBRE EL MANEJO DE EMERGENCIAS RESPIRATORIA EN ADULTOS
Resumen
Las emergencias respiratorias constituyen una causa importante de mortalidad, tanto en la sala general como en los departamentos de emergencias.
En este documento se abordan los siguientes aspectos: el paciente con disnea, con sus diagnósticos diferenciales; la insuficiencia respiratoria y, específicamente, la crisis asmática; el trauma torácico y la reagudización de la enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC), y las emergencias que debe asistir el clínico ya sea en la sala de internación o en el departamento de emergencias. Se brindan los lineamientos para el abordaje integral de las emergencias respiratorias.

Abstract
Respiratory emergencies are a major cause of mortality, either in the general ward and emergency departments.
This paper addresses the following topics: the dyspnea patient and its differential diagnoses; respiratory failure and – specifically – acute asthma; the acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and chest trauma; and the emergencies that the clinic must care for either in the hospital room or in the emergency department. Guidelines for an integrated approach are provided.
